First strike
A creature ability that makes a creature deal its combat damage before other creatures.
When one or more creatures with first strike are attacking or blocking, they get a separate combat damage, the first strike combat damage step, right before the normal one. Then, during the normal combat damage step, the rest of the creatures (the ones that survived) get to deal their combat damage.
   See also Combat damage step.

Flashback
An Odyssey block mechanic that lets you play a card once from the graveyard as though it were in your hand. Cards with flashback have a tombstone icon to the left of the card name.
When you play a spell with flashback from your graveyard, it goes on the stack like any other spell. You make any choices required by the spell's text, then pay costs. However, instead of paying the spell's mana cost, you pay its flashback cost. After the spell either resolves or is countered, it's removed from the game.
Playing a spell from your graveyard by paying its flashback cost doesn't change its mana cost. You're just paying the flashback cost instead.

Flavor text
Italic text in a card's text box that's just there for fun. (Italic text looks like this.) It sets a tone or describes part of the magical world of the card. Flavor text has no effect on how the card is played.
The Preferences screen gives you the option of not displaying flavor text. If you don't want to see flavor text on cards during games, go to the Display tab and clear the Show flavor text check box.
See Display Preferences for more information.

Flying
A creature ability that makes the creature harder to block. A creature without flying can't block a creature with flying, but a creature with flying can block both creatures with flying and creatures without flying.

Forestwalk
A creature ability that makes the creature unblockable as long as the defending player controls a forest.
   See also Landwalk.
